Over four and a half years of blogging, I can hardly believe what I have accomplished! Well…let’s be honest here…yes I can!!!! Blogging requires hard work – not only are you writing but also shooting photographs, shooting DIY’s, doing crafts etc etc as part of this full time job (this doesn’t just involve blogging but other skills like photography/videography/social media etc…). However, this past weekend was undoubtedly my most thrilling blogging journey experience yet; along with two other incredible people, I was selected to participate in GMC DIY Challenge 2018 alongside two others!
We spent an entire weekend filming this incredible show! My team consisted of Jennifer Hostetler and Bob Sevick; Jen is one of my closest friends, an invaluable creative partner, and always inspiring. Bob Sevick himself is an esteemed master carpenter with over 50 years’ experience; we call him, Bob the Builder – I could not have achieved such success without their assistance!
Competition was fierce! I confessed several times that I felt outmatched. Our competitors included Brad Pennington’s team from doityourself.com/MOCA Handcrafted as well as Timothy Dahl/Laura Dahl of Charles Hudson; hence why I brought Bob the Builder! Fortunately, their kindness and encouragement put my anxieties at ease quickly – I couldn’t ask for two better teams as rivals! Hopefully we all stay in contact beyond this event.
CVLT Studios in Los Angeles was my kind of place – industrial chic to the core! There was everything one would imagine from an LA studio: we had access to breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner whenever we desired with access to our own work spaces and workbenches.
