Crafting a Bowl from Recycled Magazines

How to Craft a Recycled Magazine Bowl

Much like crafting this DIY recycled magazine frame, creating this DIY recycled magazine bowl takes time and patience. Once completed, however, this sturdy bowl was useful for keeping small things organized – here is how you can make one yourself.

Instructions
Use a paper cutter to cut two inch thick strips from an old magazine page. Each page gives three strips; approximately 75 pages were needed for this project.

Fold each strip twice lengthwise into a half-inch thick strip.

As you continue rolling each strip, secure it with a small piece of scotch tape to ensure an even roll. As you do so, ensure your roll remains taut as you progress.

Once your base is complete, apply two coats of decoupage medium. Allow each coat to fully dry between applications.

Next, gradually layer strips until reaching your desired height. Finally, when finished add two coats of decoupage medium on both the inside and outside surfaces of the bowl for protection and additional decoration.

Drying Time Allow your recycled magazine bowl to dry completely before use – this may take several hours or even overnight. Once it is sealed and dry, use it to store keys, jewelry or potpourri; display as an ornamental piece; or experiment with different colors, patterns and shapes until your bowl satisfies your personal tastes and styles.
