Revamping the Mudroom: A Transformation Story

Easy and budget-friendly Mudroom Makeovers

When I think of a mudroom I always think about Fall, maybe because that’s the time when school begins. Also, when I think of a mudroom, I imagine a place that the children can go to school from in the morning. All their school supplies are in one spot. I imagine a space where the kids can put their keys, or their lunches and change and hang up their coats and scarves when they come home. You can leave your dirty shoes there, stomp them on the floor and then go to spend time with family. In light of this, I decided to put together some ideas for a mudroom renovation.

Idea #1: Tall and Slender is the Way to Go for Small Spaces

Add hooksimg alt=”” data-lazy-src=”https://ir.na.amazon.com/e/ir?source=bk&t=wwwdiyinspire-20&bm_id=default&l=ktl&linkId=486ef4d088b1aaa63ec7bafcde68ddcf&_cb=1503871498184″> inside and on Add hooks  on the inside and side. You can hang a magnetic board, whiteboard  or chalkboard on the side to remind you of appointments. Add decorative wall papers to your walls for a personal touch.

Find inexpensive storage or organization ideas

Use a shadowbox with hooks for your keys as an inexpensive way to organize the mudroom. Decorate the box with colorful scrapbook paper that matches your decor. Also, you can find great items in thrift shops like Goodwill. This one I fell in love with at a local charity shop.

Idea #3: Use an Organizer

Place a tray from a flea-market on top of a table to hold items like jewelry, keys or accessories before you go anywhere.

Idea #4: Repurpose and Upcycle something

This is an easy and fun idea for repurposing. You can use a vintage ladle, a mason-jar or another interesting object to mount on the wall.

Find inexpensive storage for your mudroom

For a fun and decorative mudroom storage solution, look for inexpensive baskets at flea markets or thrift stores, wooden crates or metal tubs.

Idea #6: Label it

Store gloves, hats and scarves in colorful metal baskets or pales. Label the items so everyone can stay organized and find them quickly. Consider putting tags on the shoe baskets and adding each person’s names.

Idea #7: Make your own storage baskets

I hope you enjoy my mudroom renovation ideas! Check out my video on making your own rope baskets before you leave. These can be made in any size that suits your storage or organization needs.
