Loren Crane from Pandora’s Craft Box provided instructions on how to Upholster a Step Stool.
When people warned me not to like the terrible two’s, I did not anticipate how difficult the horrible three’s would be. While my little kiddo is great most of the time, sometimes I need a time out stool as a reminder of his rules or to help get his clothes from his dresser. Joann’s provided this perfect stool and I decided to upholster it myself since I prefer creating something from scratch rather than buying something predesigned from stores.
How to Upholster a Step Stool
In order to Upholster a Step Stool, three materials will be necessary: fabric, foam and batting.
Foam I cut to fit roughly within the measurements of my stool; fabric and batting I used were cut accordingly for folding under its base. Airtex foam that I purchased from Joann’s was used.
As soon as I start stapling, my first step is to staple once on each side of the stool and adjust fabric as I go along.
As you staple, fold and unfold the fabric and batting so as to avoid creating rough edges.
Once that was complete, I used a small brush to paint the stool legs white. While I would usually advise painting before attaching fabric, my excitement at revamping prompted me to skip that step!
My final task was to free hand the number three onto fabric with a gray metallic sharpie marker – I love using metallic sharpies!
Now I have the cutest time out stool for my little kiddo, even if he does not approve!
